Wedding Service.

We're going to write our own vows... and likely have two readings. One of the readings is a poem by ee cummings (posted below) and the other hasn't been decided yet, although I would like something from the Bible. If you have any thoughts, that would be helpful. I'd like to do a unity candle lighting. I'd like to have a single string instrument (acoustic guitar, cello, violin...) play before and/or during the service.

i carry your heart with me
ee cummings

i carry your heart with me
(i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it
(anywhere i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear no fate
(for you are my fate,my sweet)
i want no world
(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart
(i carry it in my heart)

  1. I talked to Andy (family friend, Alex's godmother, pastor extraordinaire!) and she has agreed to perform our wedding. I mentioned the above things to her and she was in total agreeance (is that even a word!). She said having a live instrument is way easier to deal with than a PA and someone queueing (sp?) music for us. Also, she is going to send scripture reading ideas to us (but, please, if you have any suggestions - let it be known!). She will send us the standard UCC (United Church of Christ) service and we can use it, tweak it or scrap it and come up with something original together. She is going to do our interviews/marriage counseling via email and phone because we live 3000 miles away! She's very excited and was super helpful!
